More and more people are choosing RV’s as their “home away from home” while camping or traveling long distances across the country. RV’s provide families with the convenience of home. Many offer bedrooms, a full kitchen, a living room with a full couch and television, and much more.
Keystone RV Company specializes in portable trailer type RV’s, which are large containers with spacious living areas that are towed by another vehicle. While Keystone advertises luxurious trailers, owners of these trailers tell a different story. According to consumers, Keystone RV’s have a number of mechanical, functional, and aesthetic issues that the company often ignores or simply passes off to the third party dealers.
While some issues are minor and can be remedied with the cooperation of Keystone, other issues create serious hazards and can even result in a crash.
In November 2018, Keystone issued a recall to owners, which was concerned with the ability of certain Keystone recreational trailers to brake.
The recall stated that in certain trailers, the electric brake wiring may come in contact with the tires or wheels while the vehicle is in motion. When the wires rub against the tires and damage them, there is an increased risk of poor handling and brake ability of the trailer, which could result in a serious car crash. This is called a manufacturing defect, which occurs during the negligent or careless assembly of a vehicle, or possibly a design defect, in which the defective design caused or contributed to the issue. In this case, the trailer was assembled in a way that allowed the brake wires to touch and subsequently wear and damage the tires.
