- I just wanted to let you know I ordered a four of the smart wheel balance from Amazon.com from a company called simple innovations. Three out of the four would shake uncontrollably and flip over after you got off. I felt uneasy about this product and had to file a claim with amazon to get labels from third party seller – simple innovations – to send back and get a refund. Glad I did – now hearing about fire risk… just fyi – these things are heavy and if a child is riding one regardless of it catching on fire – it shakes uncontrollably and flips over – I could see a child getting hurt just from this activity. guess I sent mine back before they caught fire. Thank God.
- My 14 year old son was standing behind his hoverboard. Be kneeled down to power it in and the hover board glitched and started shaking and sucked his finger into wheel. There is now safety switch and his finger had to follow a full wheel rotation before the hover board stopped moving without anyone being in it. When his finger came out he had an open fracture in his finger with the bone broken and sticking out. He required emergency surgery to repair the bone and growth plate and now has a little finger that we have been told will most likely not grow causing s permanent deformity.
- My son was riding his hoverboard and it started smoking. He took it outside and within minutes it caught flame to a full fire. He put it out with a fire extinguisher.
- The Chappaqua Fire Department Responded to a home this evening where an electrical malfunction caused a Skagway Smart Balancing Electric Skateboard Black (purchased from Models Online)to catch fire and cause considerable smoke damage to the residence . Had the homeowners not been home at the time their home would have sustained significant fire damage. The Chappaqua Fire Department will make notification to the Consumer Product Safety Commission as well last the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control. We also suggest that any electronic devices that require charging only be done while someone is at home so that immediate action can be taken( call 911).
